Gao Kegong (1248–1310), was a Yuan Dynasty official, painter, and poet. As a Semu ethnic, Gao Kegong's ancestral roots trace back to the Western Regions, which is now Xinjiang.
Gao excelled in landscape painting and ink bamboo. Initially influenced by the style of Mi Fu and Mi Youren, he later studied from various masters such as Dong Yuan, Ju Ran, and Li Cheng, achieving a synthesis that resulted in his unique style characterized by thick brushstrokes, flowing mist, and the subtle blending of ink and water.
In his bamboo ink painting, he followed the tradition of the Jin Dynasty artist Wang Tingyun, displaying a rich and lively brushwork. In the early Yuan Dynasty, Gao Kegong held a high reputation in the art world and was often mentioned in the same breath as Zhao Mengfu.
