How it all started

The idea of this project was conceived during the Covid lockdown period in 2020. I found myself turning frequently to Chinese paintings during this time. Those secluded mountains, misty rivers and exquisite flowers offered a spiritual sanctuary when the physical body was confined.  I could lose myself in them for a moment and emerged feeling relieved and serene.

Like any art, Chinese art is profoundly influenced by religions. Taoism and Buddhism impart teachings about impermanence, detachment, and being in harmony with nature. Under these influences, Chinese artists are not merely satisfied with depicting the reality within its confines, they strive to detach themselves from the reality, pursuing a more spiritual world, where unrestrained character and unbowed integrity are expressed to its fullest. Chinese art offers a means of transcending the secular world and being free in our own right. I feel probably more people need this kind of solace at our troubled times, so this website was born.

Building a virtual museum for an art form with a history spanning 3000 years is a dauting challenge, necessitating specialized knowledge across many domains. Nevertheless, naively I believe with a love for Chinese art, a hope to do some good and a humble heart, we can start making baby steps. So we take to the road and will always endeavour to improve along our journey.

Thank you for reading this, and I do hope you will find some peace, comfort and joy here.

Enjoy your visit.

Cordially,

Mo Ming
